When Access to Care Becomes a Barrier: What Florida Families Need to Know

Resource for access aba services

If you’re a parent waiting for your child’s ABA services to start—or struggling to get approval for care—you’re not alone. Across Florida, families have been facing new and unexpected barriers that make it harder to access therapy services.

Recently, Disability Rights Florida reached out to the Florida Association for Behavior Analysis (FABA) after hearing from families experiencing challenges such as:

  • Denials for ABA services or requests for new Comprehensive Diagnostic Evaluations (CDEs)
  • CDE requirements that are more restrictive than the state’s Medicaid policy
  • Service denials for “lack of medical necessity”
  • Delays in credentialing new providers—or no credentialing options at all for certain payers
  • Long waits before starting services because of restrictive documentation requirements

We know these issues can be frustrating and confusing—especially when your child needs help now.

What You Can Do

If your family has been affected by delays, denials, or restrictive requirements, Disability Rights Florida is asking parents and guardians to reach out directly. They’re collecting information to better understand the problem and advocate for solutions that protect your child’s right to care.

💡 If you need help now:
You can contact Disability Rights Florida using their online form or phone number below.

Please note — they are only able to speak directly with parents or guardians, not providers.
